SBU rugby player Shane Wend has been named to the second team of the 2014-15 Collegiate All-American roster. Shane’s distinction is the highest honor a Stony Brook rugby player student has ever received. “Over the past year, these young men have demonstrated skill, passion, and dedication to the sport of rugby and have excelled with their respective collegiate teams,” said USA Rugby AIG Men’s Collegiate All-Americans Head Coach Gavin Hickie. This year six Stony Brook University students — Allie Cukrov, softball; Christina Melian, women’s cross country; Courtney Murphy, women’s lacrosse; Cole Peragine, baseball; Christian Ricard, football; and Eric Speakman, men’s cross country — were honored with the SUNY Scholar Athlete Award, which recognizes outstanding academic excellence and athletic achievement. Cukrov was voted America East Pitcher of the Year and was first team all-conference pitcher and member of the All-Academic team. Dance Team The Stony Brook Dance Team can be seen dazzling fans on the sidelines with their elite technical level and outstanding enthusiasm for all things Seawolves. The focus of the dance team is to create the ultimate fan experience through innovative crowd involvement techniques and exciting performances in the styles of pom, jazz and hip hop. In addition to performing at all home football and basketball games, members participate in numerous events on campus and in the community. Stony Brook Athletics’ annual spring game has been renamed the Frank Conti ’11 Memorial Spring Football Game to cherish the memory of a former student-athlete who made a tremendous impact on the program. The game will be held on Saturday, April 25, at 2 pm at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium, rain or shine. The game is free and open to the public, so come enjoy some spring football, inflatables, live music, and a post-game meet-and-greet autograph session with the team. Forty mascots from across New York State are competing in the third annual Mascot Madness competition, and it’s time to vote for Wolfie to win the title of SUNY’s favorite campus mascot in 2015. Each mascot has been randomly placed into four SUNY regions and ranked by the number of athletic teams each mascot represents; this will determine which mascots are competing against each other in each round.
