The Community of Awesome is a campus-wide initiative from the Office of the Dean of Students and two students, Denise DeGennaro and Rob Drago, which brings together students, faculty, and staff to celebrate and appreciate the awesome, simple joys of the University community.
Did someone hold the door open for you when your hands were full of books? Did a student make your day when he or she thanked you for your help? Is there a place on campus that makes you happy? Share it here. Shout out the people, places, and things in our community that help brighten your day and it will be posted on the blog, and may be featured in an exhibit this spring.
This initiative is inspired by the 1000 Awesome Things Blog and The Book of Awesome by Neil Pasricha and is being coordinated by student leaders of the Stony Brook University Community Pledge.

I like this initiative. It’s awesome….
The Vagina Monologues are being performed at Stony Brook University!! I saw the performance last year and loved it! I think it’s awesome that such a great production is being held in our community because it exposes students, both men and women, to not just light topics but more difficult issues such as sexual assault and abuse against women. Also, the proceeds from the tickets will benefit a variety of organizations that are dedicated to resolving issues faced by women and girls.
