From Chemo to the Catwalk; Pediatric Cancer Patients to Grace Runway, Show Benefits Stony Brook Children’s
WHAT: On Wednesday, March 26, The Sunrise Fund at Stony Brook will host their 5th “Little Miracles” Fashion show and dinner. This fairy-tale themed night is dedicated to the true stars of the evening; the children and young adults who have completed treatment or are presently undergoing their last months of treatment.
VISUALS: See these kids take to the runway and pair up withMiss Teen Long Island, Kimbo the Clown, Stony Brook University’s Mascot Wolfie, and members of the community such as The Suffolk County Police Department/6th Precinct “Cops Who Care,” The Knights of Columbus and Stony Brook Medicine doctors, nurses and staff of the Hematology/Oncology team. Evening includes fairy-tale and princess-themed characters and enchanted-themed props.
WHY: This evening is designed to give parents and children an opportunity to celebrate their recoveries and to be recognized for their extraordinary courage. In the midst of their illness, the event has served to promote self-esteem for these children as they are applauded for their bravery when they grace the runway. It is a true celebration of survivorship for the staff, patients, families and community members.
This year the Sunrise Fund will donate all proceeds from the event and raffles to support the expansion of the Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, home of the most advanced pediatric specialty care in the region.
