Italian Studies

Fred Gardaphe, Ph.D. is a Professor of European Language and Literature and directs the American and Italian/American Studies Programs. He is Associate Editor of Fra Noi, editor of the Series in Italian American Studies at State University of New York Press, and co-editor of Voices in Italian Americana, a literary journal and cultural review. His books include Italian Signs, American Streets: The Evolution of Italian American Narrative, and Dagoes Read: Tradition and the Italian/American Writer. 

Specific areas of expertise: Italian oral traditions. Depictions of Italian-Americans in American Literature and film. 

Mario B. Mignone, Ph.D., is a Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of European Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. He also is the Director of the Center for Italian Studies, and Editor of Forum Italicum, a journal of Italian Studies. He is the author of several books and numerous articles on Contemporary Italian Literature and Culture. His book, Italy Today, At the Crossroads of the New Millennium, addresses many aspects of Italian society, including politics, government, emigration, and immigration.
