STONY BROOK, N.Y., January 10, 2015 – The Stony Brook University Online Graduate Nursing and Business (Human Resources) Programs are being recognized in the 2015 Best Online Programs ranking by U.S News & World Report. Stony Brook’s Online Graduate Business (Human Resources) Program increased in the ranking to 45, representing a jump of 54 places from 2014’s ranking. The Online Graduate Nursing Program also saw an increase and was recognized as the 13th overall best program for 2015.

“As Provost, I am especially proud that our online Graduate Nursing and Human Resources programs have been recognized among the best in the nation,” said Dennis N. Assanis, Stony Brook Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. “This announcement is a testament to our renowned nursing, business and professional education programs, the dedicated work of our prominent program faculty, and the significant growth and reputable quality of Stony Brook's online programs.”

Stony Brook is home to 12 of the highest ranked programs in graduate education in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Graduate Schools".  All the rankings will be included in the 2016 U.S. News & World Report's "Best Graduate Schools 2016" publication and “Best Colleges 2016” guidebooks. This is the third year U.S. News has numerically ranked online degree programs.

“We are delighted to see this recognition of our excellent online graduate,” said Charles Taber, Stony Brook’s Vice Provost for Graduate and Professional Education. “Stony Brook’s online offerings provide quality, affordable education that is accessible to working adults as well as traditional students, and we are proud to extend our traditional excellence in graduate education to an increasing variety of online programs.”

According to U.S. News, the primary audience for these online program rankings and the detailed program profiles is working adults – often in their 30s or 40s – who may not have the flexibility to leave the workforce to take classes during the day but still wish to obtain commensurate education, skills and credentials to boost their careers.

Stony Brook is ranked in the top 1 percent of the world's higher education institutions by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. It is one of the top 100 universities in the nation and one of the top 35 public universities as determined by U.S. News & World Report. It was recently ranked one of the 30 best values in public colleges and universities by Kiplinger and is one of only 10 universities nationwide recognized by the National Science Foundation for combining research with undergraduate education. As the largest single-site employer on Long Island, Stony Brook is a driving force of the regional economy, with an annual economic impact of $4.65 billion, generating nearly 60,000 jobs, and accounts for nearly 4 percent of all economic activity in Nassau and Suffolk counties, and roughly 7.5 percent of total jobs in Suffolk County.
